Tom Cheng

A dedicated and enthusiastic individual, Tom has spent his last two decades working in the advertising filming industry. Primarily trained in the production of filmmaking, he moved on to the other side of the industry becoming a TV producer for Lintas (Hong Kong) in 1994.  He was then recruited by McCann-Erickson Guangming (Guangzhou) in 1996 to set up an in-house television production unit.  Within 3 years, it was successfully turned into a full fledge production division handling clients like Motorola, Brands and Kelon China. Returning to McCann Worldgroup (Hong Kong) as Executive Producer he was responsible for some of the most demanding clients such as Coca Cola (China), Salem (Asia), Microsoft (Asia Pacific) and one of the island’s largest account Cathay Pacific Airways (Global).

Interestingly, while wearing a producer’s hat, Tom began his flirtation with directing; shooting several tactical spots for Cathay Pacific and some Music Videos.  As an amateur art collector over the years his love and passion for all forms of craft and art finally brought him to direct at active and dedicated service in 2005.  His work demonstrates a solid understanding of context and the production flow. Making a name for himself Tom has a unique approach to staging, with natural and spontaneous language and way working out with actors. It is his strong visual signature and exploration every time that bring freshness, a sense of style and energy to his work.

His ability to create, capture and communicate moments of pure exhilaration has earned Tom awards, press and international attention on screens. Tom is now an international director who can reason intelligently with clients, work closely with creative, and fight for great ideas, giving them his trademark visual tweak.
